7 Day; 7 Lines (03/09/21)

from a prompt: write a poem where each line/sentence is about each day of last week

monday. not manic. not mundane, but a newly declared “FAT MARVELOUS MONDAY” all because strawberries with whipped cream were served for breakfast.

tuesday. sitting in a windowless dentist’s office. a living cavity full of floss, fluoride, and false promises to do both.

wednesday. meet.meet.meet-meet.meet.meet.meet-meet.meeeeetttttiiiiiinnnnggggsss.

thursday. kindergarten welcome meeting distanced by computers and covid; connected by a parental angst and children’s curiosity.

friday. a fake catholic tries forcing fish for dinner. no one is having it.

saturday. officially the “I LOVE SCIENCE” celebration in Syracuse; a band-aid on my left shoulder, a burning of hope throughout.

sunday. a parade of alligators on ice; marching, giggling, twirling of batons and the wish to have the imagination of five year old again.

  1. I love how I envisioned moments of your life so clearly with your well-chosen details. This slice reminded me of the one-second-a-day photo compilation you once put together. Beautiful words, “a living cavity full of floss, fluoride, and false promises to do both.”

    1. I love how you always know which line of my I am most proud of. I usually only have one per slice and yet you find them every time. It makes my heart so freaking happy. Every.single.time.

  2. Thanks for the mentor text. I can’t wait to try this format. I love the list-like quality and brevity of words. (One of my fav. lines: Friday + alliteration “a fake catholic tries forcing fish for dinner”.)
